Quality Manager

Reporting to the Plant Manager, this position is responsible for managing the Quality Department to assure the manufacture and shipment of quality products according to established standards and specifications, within acceptable cost guidelines. This role is the voice of the customer within the plant. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the Quality Pillar of our World Class Manufacturing (WCM) initiative. The goal for this pillar being zero defects. 
  • Lead and continually improve the plant’s Quality Management System, ensuring compliance to ISO 9000. 
  • Working closely with the Operation’s Team and Plant Logistics, provide leadership and guidance to maximize quality standards, production output, schedule compliance while minimizing cost. 
  • Establish, maintain and improve in-process quality systems, plans and verification/evaluation audits to ensure high product and service quality to customers. 
  • Develop and provide leadership for capability assessments, quality planning, audit system development, and statistical analyses to ensure all processing steps produce the planned result at each operation. Thus products meet, or exceed, design/system performance requirements and customer expectations. 
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the development of quality standards and critical-to-quality characteristics for product and process definition and developments. 
  • Establish meaningful quality measurement criteria and timely, visible monitoring and communication mechanisms. 
  • Establish and maintain a system for the control of defective parts including possible use, disposition and responsibility for defect and rework with those responsible to prevent reoccurrence and control cost. 
  • Prepare and submit reports on quality ratings and cost to keep management informed. 
  • Set up and evaluate finished products for adherence to quality standards. 
  • Manage feedback from the field to ensure that product improvements have the proper priorities. Work with Current Product Management (CPM) teams to develop and implement product improvements. 
  • Advise Product Engineering, Manufacturing, SQA and Purchasing personnel of quality problems and work with them to reduce rejections, failures and improve quality. 
  • Cooperate and assist Tooling and Process Engineering in developing methods and providing tooling so parts can be produced and checked to print specifications. 

Qualifications: 

  • BS Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical degree. 
  • ASQC or equivalent quality management certification preferred. 
  • A minimum of five years quality or manufacturing engineering experience preferred. 
  • Experience/training in machining, welding, fabrication and /or large assembly processes. 
  • Previous supervisor experience. 
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
